Prayer Letter

Dear Friend,

We trust that this opening year will be filled with anticipation for what our great God will do to extend His Kingdom.

On the Eve of the year we learned that our good friend Martin Holdt from S Africa was promoted to see his Saviour after a diagnosis

of cancer just days before.  'A prince is fallen in Israel' indeed.  His support for literature and promoting sound expositional preaching

was unrivalled.  Three years ago we were able to supply him at nominal cost with 27,000 books for distribution among African pastors.

This was possible due to an exceptional stock reduction exercise by our sister mission Pastor Training International.  Let us tell you

about our second hand book ministry.

SECOND HAND BOOKS WANTED

We are collecting theological books from people who are downsizing their libraries.  We started this additional ministry early last year,

and during the year we were enabled to place over 1000 good books in Bible College libraries in India, Pakistan, Burma, Kenya,

Uganda, Nigeria and Cuba as well as at LTS, Finchley.  Students in these countries are able to cope with English at various levels

so we have to select carefully the material we send.  However the delight at Christian generosity is always evident as per the

following letters:

"Dear Christian friend,

Warm greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks for your

commitment to bring the books all around the world especially in

third-world countries. I have received the books you sent to me. There

are three boxes and 109 books in all. I am writing you to let you know

how much I enjoy reading all the good and useful books you sent to me.

In fact, my joy is beyond human words can express. Although they are

second hand books, they are still so useful to my ministry that they

give me much spiritual knowledge and strength, and I can share many

good things from them to my students and other believers in Myanmar."

SHEARED? BIBLES

 "Dear good brother

God bless you a billion times daily what a joy over here brother we have received the 3 box of 62 bibles

you sent to us in good condition  we received them last month and to the glory of God all the bibles

has been sheared* one by one as requested  brother thank you very much

God bless you all thanks  - paul  and friends, Nigeria"

*Editor's note:   We do not think the pages have been sheared - shared out rather.

Praise

We have just been able to send nearly 1000 Swahili books  9 titles by air freight to Kenya.  This will be followed

by nearly 3 tons of the same titles by sea.  Here is the comment from Sukesh in Kawangware near Nairobi:

"   Thank you for sending the books, we look forward to receiving them.  Is it possible to consider re-printing

Regeneration by Ryle and also Sin is Serious please.  Also Baxter's The Ministry we Need.  These three,

particularly Ryle and Baxter are in huge demand here and I believe they are doing a huge amount of good."

Robin Asgher is visiting Pakistan this month and has stuffed his suitcases with Urdu 'Ultimate Questions'.  He will be preaching

in Abbottabad (Bin Laden's hide-out) among other places.  We now have available 10,000 copies for the UK as well. (Please

note there are estimated to be 1 million Urdu speakers in the UK.)

Despite the Foreign Secretary, William Hague, visiting Burma this month problems surrounding translation, which even he could

not have resolved have meant we will continue to go ahead with a Mizo translation of 'Foundations of the Christian Faith'.  Praise

God for a grant, which will also enable this to be paid for.

Prayer

  • Pray that we will be able to meet the various demands for translation, publication and transport.  We have requests from Sri Lanka

and Latvia, which we would like to support.

  • Pray that we will be able to publish four outstanding manuscripts in Swahili, one in Nepalese and one in Malayalam.
  • Pray for the meaningful distribution in Urdu of  'Ultimate Questions'.

Diary Date:

Saturday May 12th at 10.00am  Day Conference of Christian Books Worldwide and Pastor Training International at Freshbrook EC Swindon

In co-operation with Desiring God Ministries we were able to publish 7000 copies of

"Finally Alive" in Swahili, for Kenya and Tanzania
