His impact was world-shattering and lives on. But Germany which cradled and protected him and from where the assaults on the abuses of Rome were fired has not enjoyed enduring Gospel benefits. Its evangelical heritage was all but destroyed by the higher criticism of the nineteenth century and later the modernist movement.
Today the evangelical church is light on teaching and swayed by fads and influences from further west. While there have been some outstanding preachers of the Gospel in every age the desperate need for German Christians is to be restored to the great reformation truths.
3Lverlag has been publishing great Christian classics from English since the year 2000, in an attempt to encourage German Christians to recover their roots. Books (more than 60 titles to date) by Watson, Spurgeon, Ryle, M Lloyd-Jones and John Piper - to name a few- are now available in German.
3L is run as a charity and most books are sponsored. Revenue from sales are reinvested into new publications.
Germany’s stock of good Christian literature is miniscule compared to that available to English speakers.
